Titanium Dioxide

     Titanium dioxide, also known as titanium (IV) oxide or titania, is the naturally occurring oxide of titanium, chemical formula TiO2.

When used as a pigment, it is called titanium white, Pigment White 6, or CI 77891.

Generally it is sourced from ilmenite, rutile and anatase. It has a wide range of applications, from paint to sunscreen to food colouring.

The most important constituent of paint is titanium dioxide, an opaque substance that gives paint its high gloss and rich depth of color.

TiO2 (titanium dioxide) replaced the dangerous metal lead that was used in paint for this purpose.

TiO2 (titanium dioxide) has also been used for years in coloring for food and cosmetics, crayons, and UV protection in sunscreens and many other products we use every day.
